A "courtesy call" is made as a polite gesture to upperclassmen, typically to show respect or to maintain good relationships. It's usually a brief and informal meeting, usually in person, and it's often used as an opportunity to build rapport and foster positive connections. Introducing the purpose and will and building a relationship to hear the concerns and show support for the plans and programs of Law enforcement.
We, the cadets, adhered to this particular duty of the academy. It gives us a chance to introduce ourselves to our upperclassmen and lets them know that we are present in their area. This is a good tradition that we observed up to this point in the field whereby after we graduate and join the TRI-BUREAU or visit another place, we immediately look for an upperclassman in the area to render a courtesy call. Additionally, we do this to ask for assistance or solicit support and aid from our seniors.
Our upperclassmen typically offer something in our favor or offer something we enjoy as payment for the courtesy call that the underclassmen paid for. They also give us a treat of gratitude. A Courtesy call was rendered by Police Cadets undergoing Cadet Attachment Program (CAP) last January 20, 2023, to PCOL JOSEFINO DICO LIGAN, Chief District Directorial Staff, QCPD. A member of PNPA Kaagapay Class of 1996, PLTCOL GEOVANNY EMERICK ACAN SIBALO, Force Commander, Quezon City District Mobile Force Battalion, QCPD. A member of PNPA Sinag-Laya Class of 2002. Mentorship and influence can be key in helping a police officer become a good one.
A mentor can provide guidance, support, and feedback, helping the officer develop the skills and knowledge needed to be effective. Additionally, a mentor can be a positive role model, demonstrating the values and behaviors necessary in the field. On the other hand, influence can help officers gain the respect of their peers and community, which can help them to be more effective in their roles. Good police officers are often seen as leaders, and having a positive influence can help them build trust and credibility, making it easier for them to accomplish their goals and objectives.
